Halloween has become an issue among pious Christians.  Long considered harmless fun, many are now questioning its history, nature, influence, and fruit.  The revitalization of Satanism and witchcraft and their obvious association with Halloween have caused Christians to wonder whether they should participate in it at all.

There is no denying the bizarre and occultic nature of Halloween decorum.  Certainly, witches, devils, ghouls, monsters, vampires, and ghosts are not Christian in character.  But in spite of that, some Christians defend their participation in the holiday asserting their liberty in Christ from the bondage of legalism, or shrugging it off as having fun.  Many Christians see it as evil and will have nothing to do with it.  Others see no harm in it and participate fully, with costume parties, Halloween decoration and trick-or-treat.

What’s wrong with Halloween, and what should be the attitude of the conscientious Christian toward it?  Is it harmless?  Is it good influence?  Does it bring honor and glory to Christ Jesus?  Who are we representing when we dress as a devil or ghoul?  Who receives profit from Halloween decorum?

The Halloween Celebration Is Thoroughly

Rooted In Paganism And In The Occult

History traces it back to the ancient Druids, a religion so evil that Rome forbade its Practice.  The Druids held a celebration on October 31 in Ireland.  It was a night of ghost and fairies, in which bonfires were built and futures foretold, and witches rode through the sky.

Unquestionably, the holiday had its origin with the pagan Druids, only they called it the “Festival of Samhain - the Lord of the Dead.”  Samhain was nothing more than a demon.  Furthermore, it is a blasphemous perversion of Christian belief in the resurrection of Christ.

In Christianity, the righteous dead are raised in a glorified, immortal body.  In Druidism, the dead are raised as horrifying creatures of the night, hideous monsters, decaying skeletons, vampires, and etc.

The Question Is, Should Christians

Adopt Such Practices?

Can we borrow the ancient customs and superstitions and Christianize them?  The Bible is not silent on the subject:

“Learn not the ways of the heathen, for the customs of the people are vain...” Jeremiah 10:2,3.  And, “When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.” Deuteronomy 18:9.  Also, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Ephesians 5:11.

Halloween Glorifies Satan

When America and the world celebrate the powers of darkness by masquerading about as evil creatures, or decorating our homes, churches, or business with occult symbols, Satanic power is glorified.  While we may have participated all in fun, be assured, Halloween is serious business for Satanists and witches.

Anyone who is familiar with witchcraft would tell you that there are certain rituals and spells that can only be case on Halloween night.  Those who oppose Christ meet on Halloween to observe Satanic rituals, to cast spells, to oppose Christians and family life, to perform sacrilegious acts, and even offer blood sacrifices to Satan.  And even more frightening across the U.S., is the increase in human sacrifice.  The 700 Club interviewed several people last Halloween (several of which were teenagers) who actually participated in or witnessed human sacrifices while involved in Satanism.  No one scoffs at the stories anymore, as police around the country have had to scurry to develop a new field of investigation dealing with the gruesome reality of Satanic worship and sacrifices.

Isn’t it sad that while Satanists, witches, occultists, and police are taking Halloween very seriously, many in the Church protest our spoiling all the fun for the children?  Who do we serve, Christ or Satan?

Halloween Treats Occultism As Harmless

When Christians participate in Halloween, it sends a message to children that witchcraft, demonism, Satanism, and the occult are something fun, entertaining, and harmless.  It gives a false impression of what is right and wrong, and, parents which sponsor Halloween activities either do not know the evils thereof, or do not care.  The Bible says, “Abstain from all appearance of evil..”  1 Thessalonians 5:22. Christians are to be followers of God, Ephesians 5:1.

Is It Obedience To God?

God repeatedly forbids His children’s participation in such demonic activities, as the following passages will affirm:  Deuteronomy 18:9-14; Exodus 7:11-12, 22:18; Lev. 19:26; Deut. 31:20; 1 Chron. 10:13-14; 2 Kings 21:5-6; Jer. 27:9-10; Zech. 10:2; Mal. 3:5; Acts 8:9f, 16:6f, 19:19; Gal. 5:16-21; 2 Tim. 3:8.

A careful examination of these Scriptures reveal God’s unreserved condemnation of all who participate in any occult activity. 

What Is Wrong With Halloween?

After a careful study and survey of God’s Word, I find everything about it wrong!  It does not have one single redeeming virtue.  It is a demon-inspired, devil glorying, occult festival!  Those who love the Lord Jesus Christ cannot have anything to do with it.

What Should The Christian’s Position Be?

Clearly, we should have nothing to do with Halloween activities whatsoever.  If Christians assemble on Halloween, it should be to worship God, sing, praise, pray, intercede, wage spiritual warfare, and pull down demonic strongholds, to be separate from the world.  We have been made children of light.  Jesus redeemed us from the powers of darkness, Ephesians 5:18.

Some may call me legalistic for writing a lesson of this nature.  However, if you will take the time to study the list of materials given, you also will be enraged with the occult.
